Project Proposal
Content- We really care about child abuse, and feel that there should be more awareness to let others know that they can and should be active reporters of chld abuse.
Purpose- The purpose of this project will be to inform people about child abuse, what they can do if it is suspected, and what to look for, while heightening awareness of the subject.
Audience- Our intended audience will be college students, since most of them are going into professional fields that will allow them to look for signs of child abuse, to adults, because they are the people who can make the most difference, and people who may have children of their own.
Format- The format of the project will be an imovie. Participants will view the imovie and then participate in a discussion based on what they just saw. This media will enhance emotional intimacy and invite meaningful dialogue.
Production-
Context
--------> http://youtube.com/watch?v=P9njhcQUlXc
This imovie incorporates knowledge and facts; however, it is somewhat boring, and it is not a call to action. It invokes emotion, but it seems a little bit too fact based and impersonal.
- “Only recently, and only in particular countries and cultures, has the abuse of children come to be seen as a major social problem and a main cause of many people's suffering and personal problems” (Hopper).
- “They found that having a history of child abuse — which was the case for almost 30 percent of the people in this study — led to more than twice the number of PTSD symptoms in adults who had later undergone other traumas, compared to traumatized adults who weren't abused in childhood”(Binder et. al.)
- “Being abused and/or neglected as a child are not the only painful and potentially damaging experiences that human beings may suffer in childhood. Whether or not, and to what extent child abuse and neglect (or other painful experiences) have negative effects depends on a variety of factors - related to the abuse itself, but also to relationships, in which the abuse and the child's responses occur. Child abuse, in itself, does not "doom" people to lives of horrible suffering” (Hopper).
- “Traumatic events in childhood — such as physical or sexual abuse — increase the risk of borderline personality disorder and other personality disorders” (Mayo Clinic Staff).
Contribution/Complexity
- Our contribution will be different because participants will become more emotionally intimate with the subject through the use of the i-movie, as well as engage in meaningful dialogue through the corresponding blog. It will also be different than the abovie imovie because it will be a call to action that will allow people to see what they can do if the issue of child abuse ever arises for them. Our imovie will end in a positive way, and will encourage others to be active members in society.
- Participants will hopefully become more able to identify signs of child abuse, and draw from what is presented if they ever face a siuation involving child abuse. Viewers will be sensitive to those who fall victim to child abuse.
- Participants will become more emotionally aware of the presence of child abuse.
- Participants will hopefully want to fight against child abuse, and definitely never abuse their own children.
Publication and Publicity- We will publicize our imovie by posting it on youtube and asking for a discussion, and also posting a link to it on a group on facebook for college students to view.

Production Schedule
Working with others on your project team (most likely a subset of the "medium group," if there are several different projects being created in this medium"), you will create a Production Schedule for your project.
Steps:
- Find at least one internet source that discusses production in the medium (e.g., "blog production," or "web production"). Post the link on your wiki page and label it accordingly. http://youtube.com/watch?v=viMWlKkTAPk
- Using the information from this source, along with the criteria from your rubric, create a list (on your wiki page) of everything you will have to do in order to achieve an "A" on the project.
Gather appropriate images.

Include Text
Any other necessary revisions
- Agree upon what a midterm "draft" of the project will be (ie., what the project will look like when it is halfway finished) and get my approval on this. If you are working with any form of digital storytelling (video production or podcasting), plan to be finished with shooting and/or recording by this date (i.e., by midterm, you should have all the raw footage of your piece completed and have only editing and post-production left to do).
Have all images, sounds, and texts. Plan to compile them together after meeting with Dr. Sarver.
- Plan to have that "draft" completed by the beginning of class on April 21. This week you will also plan to meet with the technology trainer to follow up on the project, anticipate next steps, and possibly revise your plans.
- Assign tasks to particular people in the group in order to meet that April 21 deadline. Make sure that the workload is evenly distributed amongst all group members.
Krysi and Autumn will collaborate together as a team and maintain communication vie e-mail, IM, meetings (Library 2X a week), etc. in order to meet the April 21st deadline. Workload will be evenly distributed between both group members.
- Using your list from #2, figure out what tasks remain after April 21 to complete the project at the "A" level by May 5. Assign tasks to individuals, using the same principles you used for #5. (If you are doing a video or a podcast, you will publish your piece to the appropriate web community ON MAY 5 -- or as shortly thereafter as possible --, but ALL production will be complete by this date.
Put the iMovie components together.

- Type the names of individual group members and the tasks assigned to them to be completed by April 7 on the appropriate blanks on the form (cut and paste from the Production Schedule)

If individual tasks have changed since the form was first pre-filled, be sure to note these changes on the wiki no later than Monday at 8am for that day's evaluation.
