Project Proposal

1.       The topic we’ve decided to use for our project is animal shelters and their need for more donations and adoptions. Personally, we feel as if there is not enough done to improve animal shelters and take care of innocent animals in need.   We believe that with a bit of knowledge, others will understand our point of view and perhaps work harder to protect animals of all kinds, and make their lives a little happier. Both of us have a special place in our hearts for animals and want others to share that compassion and love for animals in shelters.

2.

·         We feel awareness has to be made about animals in need of adoption—before people go out and decide to spend money on a pure breed.

·         We want people to become aware of the conditions in animal shelters so that they can help change them. We feel that by exposing these conditions with still images and text we can help people realize the potential they have to help these animals. We want people to realize that the money they waste on superficial gifts can go to much better use in places such as these animal shelters.

3.        The audience we wish to reach would be college age students and their families. We feel that college age students are compassionate and open minded to new ideas. Hopefully, they would pass this information along to their families, specifically their parents who have the money and ability to make donations or adopt pets. We believe that this large group of people will recognize the good they can do, and rather than spend money on useless gifts, they can make a real difference and donate to a shelter.

4.       The medium we feel would be most successful for this topic is a video or montage of photographs taken at a local shelter. A video or collection of photographs played to music will appeal to the audience’s emotions and impact them into remembering our message. The video will relay the information we wish to put out there, while appealing to our viewers feelings and hearts.

5.       Context:

We plan to use a series of Pedigree Dog Food commericals as our inspiration for the imovie, one is located on Youtube: Check it out!

Contribution: We believe that our imovie will be different/ more effective for two reasons:

1- We will be using local animals that are kept in this community

2- We will also include text that supports the monatary value of daily products in the lives of the animals in the shelter (example: Your starbucks coffee could buy...)

Conversation and Connectivity: We plan to "Advertise" our imovie by tagging it on Youtube under several different names such as: Puppy, Dogs, Consumption, Helping, Cortland and Shelters. We also plan on asking the shelter to place our imovie link on their website, so future adoptive parents can check it out.  As a personal choice we will both place links on our social networking sites where our peers will have a chance to view it.

Content:   Our focus is going to be mainly on the need for monetary donations in the shelter. We have chosen this focus because of our intended audience. We feel that college-age students are more likely to give money to the shelters (insteadof gifts) than they are to adopt animals.  However, we will be dicussing the need to adopt from shelters because that it in important belief to us and contributes to a better quality of living for all animals involved.

Complexity: To make this project multi-media, we are going to have an imovie with still images and text. We are going to make the video ourselves and perhaps, create our back round sound on Garage Band. If the imovie is getting a lot of hits off of Youtube and our social networking site, we may consider creating a free website to publish the imovie on, once Eng307 is over.

6.        By broadcasting our message in front of our Media Literacy class, we feel that our peers will hopefully extend the message. We also plan on sharing our Youtube link with local shelters, who will hopefully extend it to their website for more viewers to see. We believe this will extend our message to a broad audience and through our video and information, make our audience concerned about our ideas.
